Am hoping to get some chickens for my back garden, but am clueless.

What do I need to know/do/buy/avoid?

Thanks

Ooh - will be lurking hopefully here - have been skirting round the idea of chickens for a while - but have no idea where to start!

You sound the same as me. I want them, just don't know where on earth to start!

Hello there.

I am LadyMacbeth posting under a new name... and recently I did a great long post for somebody else asking the same question. Can't be bothered to rewrite it so am off to find the link...

Good luck!

Fab thanks

Looking at either this or this
(or similar) - Are there any designs that are better/worse then others? My chooks will get an hour or so freerange a day (more @ weekends!)

Nutterly. If they are only having an hour free range I'd say whichever has the bigger run - you should be able to find the dimensions on the sites they are featured on.

BTW any free range time is great for chickens. Try to ensure it's the hour before dusk though as they should instictively wander back to the hen house to roost and you won't have to chase them all over your garden! Also they poo more in the morning which is not great when you want to use your lawn. Also they lay mainly in the morning so you won't have to go on a treasure hunt as they switch laying locations regularly.
