We have agreed to get a black lab puppy when I will have more time than I have now as I know they are high energy dogs needing lots of mental and physical stimulation. We currently have a cat and a 5 year old Lhasa also and there's just hubby me and our 17 year old daughter. I work three days a week. Don't want to leave it on its own thinking of that borrow my doggie thing springing up. Also work weekends and nights and so wouldn't be left. What can I expect from a lab.

Not got a lab, but my grandparents had one when I was a kid. They stay in puppy stage for quite some time! Lots of chewing too. I know someone currently fostering a black lab guide dog in training, nothing is safe from going in his mouth...

If you want a puppy you have to be really careful where you get one from. Either reputable or breed rescue or a KC assured breeder who does ALL the health tests. Obesity and hip problems are rife in Labs.
