Bernese Mountain Dogs

Does any one have any experience with them? We are looking at getting one but wondered what people who have them would say about them pros and cons.

I have a bernese cross called Riley and he is an amazing dog, very clever, requires a lot of walking. cons would be the hair, jesus christ I have to hoover a lot but wouldn't swap him for anything!

We lost our BMD in September & I still get a bit teary thinking about him.
He was a lovely boy, he rarely barked & was a real family dog.
The downsides are shedding hair (If you are houseproud) & relatively short life span.
We are picking up our BMD puppy tomorrow (weather permitting).

Sorry to hear you lost yours but how exciting getting a new puppy. Have you found that they slobber?

They are lovely but I think their life span is on the short side.

They're lovely dogs but they don't live long.

Have a look into the various breed clubs. You need to consider the way such a big dog would fit into your life. Transport etc.
They are prone to some health issues. Parents must be screened for hip and elbow issues.
They need a lot of grooming and don't live all that long.
