Would you get a cat if you had gerbils?

We have 2 gerbil tanks, each with a pair of gerbils in. And a hamster.

DD wants to get a cat but we think it's a bad idea as it's likely to want to eat one of the small furries. I don't think we could guarantee to always keep it out of DC's bedrooms where the small furries live even though they're old enough to remember to keep the doors closed.

Is there likely to be a cat that doesn't like small animals?

I'll always remember discovering a little gerbil nose on our living room floor when I was 7.....

We had both. The gerbils were many eaten the cats, but we did sometimes find a rogue cat staring through the bars of the cage. The gerbils didn’t seem particularly bothered.

I maybe wouldn’t risk it, but I had 2 hamsters, lots of guinea pigs & rabbits along with 2 cats. 1 cat ignored them all. The other seemed to view the bigger ones as ‘equals’ but was very interested in the hamsters. They were kept in a part of the house that cats couldn’t get to without human company though, I’d be wary of having them in main house as cats are sneaky buggers.
