Pet dog sleeping in daughter's room

My 4 year old daughter is often scared in her bedroom and wants company. We have 2 family dogs who both sleep downstairs. The 5 year old dog is totally safe and I'm thinking she might like it if he slept in her room with her. I think he would like it too as he loves attention and doesn't get much since the 2 kids came along. Anyone else have a dog sleep in with their child? The dog is 5. I've had him 3 years. He's small fluffy and always been fab with the kids, even my 1 year old whose heavy handed with him.

As a child I loved it when the dog slept in my room. It seems unfair to make the other dog stay downstairs alone though - he might fret if his companion is taken away.

My two dogs sleep with ds - usually ddog1 is cuddled up with him, ddog2 on the dog bed in the room, but sometimes also in his double bed

Awww sounds lovely for both doggy and DC! Absolutely must see a pic of your lovely dog now since you have described him! He sounds gorgeous!!

How do I upload a photo?. Both dogs are total sweeties but the other ones a collie and a bit more of a fidget and much bigger. Daughter does have a double.bed though. I've had 23 foster dogs in the house and the collie has been here for all of them. He just lets them take over his toys and bed and people. He does breathe a sigh of relief when they go though. I'm very lucky to have 2 such lovely dogs. Have to ponder. I do feel so guilty the dogs get so little attention since I had the kids. They used to go training at agility and competing and long walks and now they get a walk everyday but that's it. Maybe this is the answer.

When DD was two and changed from a cot to a bed, she started getting scared at night.
Sleighthound2 started sleeping by the foot of her bed and rapidly progressed to sleeping in bed with her.
He was so big, they used to ‘spoon’ with his head on the pillow and his top paw cuddled round her.
They had an amazing bond up until we lost him last year.
I’m so glad I went with my instinct and let him stay with her.

My dog always slept on my bed when I was a child. Dogs are pack animals and shouldn't be alone. I'm sure it would be a comfort to your daughter too. However, would the other dog be left downstairs to sleep alone? This could be very traumatic, especially if they're used to sleeping together.
I'm currently lying in bed with my cat and dog. It's a bit cramped but I couldn't be happier

Ddog often sleeps in with DS(4) when he says he's scared. DS is reliable with the dog and the dog is great with him. We put the dog bed in by the bed but i know as soon as we shut the door that DS tries to get him up to sleep on the bed though! At least it gives ddog his own 'space' in the room if he wants it though.
