We probably haven't got enough space and would have to fence drastically as lots of the neighbours grow veg. And I don't know if foxes would be a problem. But I'd like one.

We have 4 goats-3 boers (large s.african meat breed) and one pygmy. They are cute but useless, DO NOT eat everything-in fact will only eat certain kinds of goat mix
You do need to notify DEFRA but apart from if you wanted to move them anywhere or if they die, thats not a big issue.
If they do die-DEFRA have a "fallen goat" scheme and will collect them free of charge. Daft though-whole idea is to avoid spread of germs as in Foot and mouth, so instead of burying our little pygmy goat in the garden (as before) they sent a filthy van from 200 miles away that then went 150 miles in another direction-makes sense!

liked the idea once myself but i was put off by two at ny stables who were sooo agressive. often 'ruttted' or whatever the term is and once gave me a VERY sharp left hook on my leg. was bruised for a month. put me off entirely. but willing to hear nicer stories and be presuaded back again chickens - mmm they are a bit smelly but i love the idea of them - maybe goats are better anyone know?

I did read recently that there is a type of goat (Montana something or others) who butt heads so hard that their hooves can fall off

i would sooo love to have some little pygamys but although we have a big big garden it is surrounded by conifers and they are poisonous to goats so its a no no. there are 120 trees to get rid of but i cant seem to persuade dp its worth it!!

ds1 loves goats too and was never afraid to go and pat them when he was a toddler, dont know if that was a good thing or not..?
