Should I get another cat?

We have a female cat who is a just over a year old, she is quite feisty and we have seen her with other cats where she has rolled over to be submissive but they don't seem to like her so they sometimes end up fighting. She's a typical cat in terms of being independent, Will only cuddle us when she wants to (although she was snuggly before she started going outside!)

My fiance and I have joked about the idea of getting another cat but now he's seriously wanting one and we're not sure how our current cat would react as we don't want to be coming home to a blood bath!

Has anyone else been in a similar position and have any advice?

We took in a stray after about a year of adopting our first cat, with the intention of rehoming him with family.
We kept them separate, but they made friends by playing ‘tag’ under the gap in the door lol, and our first cat really came out of her shell, so we had to keep the stray too!
Cat1 was so timid when she was on her own, but now she’s always pouncing about with him, they’re always together, grooming playing etc it worked out really well. But it’s difficult to say as not all cats are the same!

I’m not sure how true t is, but I’ve read that they get on easier with the opposite sex.

Good luck.

It's really no guarantee that they'll get along. What I did with mine was to keep them separate for 2 weeks and only let them smell each other through the door before doing proper introductions. They''re both doing well know.

I think what helps is:

  1. The new kitty is a kitten. So they will know their hierachical roles or what not easily
  2. New kitty is the opposite sex.

Good lukc anyway!
