Rabbit put down

My rabbit was only 8 months old and we took him to the vets after finding him chewing his foot until it was bleeding for the vet to say he has a bone infection and we have to put him down.
They told us it was caused by plastic flooring in his cage but pets at home only have cages with plastic flooring so should they not have mentioned this when we bought him because we’re all crying now because we feel we have done him wrongly

Binky free bunny!

Plastic flooring alone wouldn't have caused the infection BUT they do struggle on solid hard surfaces as they can cause sore hocks. Flooring should be covered with bedding such as hay. If the bun had bedding on top of the plastic floor, that wasn't the issue. Sore hocks are a bugger but can be caused by a number of issues.

If it was just a hard floor then yes you have done it wrong because the rabbit can become uncomfortable. However. If you've bedded it with hay or straw then you have done no wrong. I suggest a gentle word with whoever sold you the rabbit.

Best of luck.
