Stressed out cat...WWYD?

Thanks for reading :)

Basically I have 2 cats, we've moved house a couple of times and both cats have been absolutely fine. They're brothers so they've always been together.

However...we moved in summer and ever since then, one of the cats has been super stressed about going outside (he used to spend most of his days outside). He's got a big garden and the other cat is fine.

Anyway, over the last couple of months he's started weeing and pooing inside. Carpet/bed/baby's cot, you name it. We've put a litter tray down and he'll do a wee in that, but save the poo for a delightful treat.

We have young children so can't risk there being cat poo anywhere in the house at any point argh!!

What on earth would you do??

Have you tried a feliway plugin?

userwithgreycats · 14/12/2017 18:18

Good shout. I'll try that, might calm him inside but I guess there's nothing much I can do about his sudden fear of the outside...

Sounds like there's a "bully cat" outside. Definitely try Feliway.

I would third the Feliway suggestion. I get them, and refills from Amazon. You may find it better to plug a couple in, depending on room size, or how he spends his time in the house.

I know it's always the "go to" answer but you may also want to think about taking him to the vet and rule anything physical out.

A while ago one of my cats went through a phase of peeing all over the house - literally everywhere apart from her litter box. We were trying to encourage her to go outside at the time and she wasn't keen so for ages I assumed it was behavioural because of that, but eventually when she peed on my kitchen table I thought "this can't be normal!" Took her to the vet and it turned out she had a UTI - short course of medication, change of food, and she's never done it since.

I'm not saying that will be the answer but you might want to rule it out - I felt terrible that I'd been getting so annoyed with my cat when she actually had a UTI! 😢

Yeah keep a look out for a bully! And if you spot one spray it with a water pistol (not hard enough to hurt it obvs).

Thanks all - will do! Fingers crossed it works
