Vet fees.

How much do people pay for per consultation? My vet fees seem to have gone up a lot and medication very expensive.

Just got 2 weeks worth of antibiotics for my dog and they cost £64 just for the meds... is this normal?

With antibiotics there will a huge difference in cost between a chihuahua and a Great Dane. The type of antibiotics will affect for example in my practice a months course of TMPS for a 36kg dog is about £35 a months course of a cephalosporin would be £150 as it is a newer more expensive drug.
Area of the country will affect consult price.

£27 for the consultation at the one I use.

This is for a bearded collie. 2 weeks worth of synolux. 21 tablets of 500mgs was £64. If this is the norm then that's absolutely fine. Just seemed rather steep.

In my practice same drug two weeks course at that dose £77. So no they are not unreasonable.

Thank you for clarifying. I don't mind it that is the cost just seemed very expensive

A reflection of the fact that the prescription charge we pay nowhere near reflects the true cost of the large majority of drugs prescribed.

That seems okay to me.

My dog needed antibiotics a couple of weeks go (We didn't even get 2 weeks worth) and it was closer to 90! (He is a large breed puppy, so still pretty big at 6 months old, but nowhere as big as he'll eventually be!)

One of my chickens also needed antibiotics and intrafungal medication recently and that was over 80, have to admit we were quite surprised at that one!

Not sure how much the consultation is though and how much the meds are.
