Guide Dog Puppy Carer

Has anyone done this? I'd be interested to hear about your experience if so!

It won't be soon as we have an elderly lab and I don't think it would be fair to him to introduce a puppy, but in the future possibly.

Kids at the moment are both in school, and I only work 9 hours per week (3 hrs x 3 days but can spread it over 4 if neccessary) so would have lots of time to dedicate to puppy.

Would love to know what the vetting process involved, timeline from enquiry to getting a dog placed with you, would you / did you do it again with another puppy? Also best and worst bits about it!

Thanks for any advice!

One of my colleagues has trainee guide dog puppies. Next time I see her I’ll ask her. Apparently they have then to socialise themBd get them used to people and living in a home etc. Then they are picked up to go to ‘school’ every weekday. She has another dog and two very young children.

My cousin had one (I think for 18 months) then it failed it's tests to be a Guide dog (poor recall!!!). I think they've got it back but Guide Dog people are looking for a new home for it (they don't want it long-term as they are retired persons and he's a bit lively) - one of my cousin's neighbours is interested in rehoming it so hopefully they will be allowed to.

Think that should have been "its", not "it's" but it is one of my weak grammar points.
