A cat in a flat?

Is this fair on the cat? Are certain breeds better at being indoors?

My Persians couldn't care less if they honout or not. They'd be happy in a flat.

My Persian loved being an indoor cat when we lived in a flat.

Now that we have a house, I have to encourage her to go into the garden.

I had two cats in a flat! Both were fine - they never knew any different and had each other for company which I think helped. Plus we both worked shifts so they were rarely on their own longer than 5 hours or so.

Thanks!

When you go to the rescue centre to look for your new feline friend, I'd suggest asking for one that is either
a) from a home where they have always been kept indoors
b) have FIV - it's often recommended that a cat with FIV is kept indoors to stop it infecting other cats

I kept a pair of half bengals in a flat for a year. They were substantially happier (as was I) when they started going outside. Definitely wouldn't recommend it for the more active breeds like them / abyssinians / maine coon.

(lots of breed societies like the Burmese Cat Club have a page with details of former breeding cats looking for new homes, and they are almost always used to being indoors all the time)
