We are thinking of getting a kitten. Would you suggest a boy or girl kitten?

Cats are solitary (as a rule) so one is fine. Yes kittens will play with each other etc but adult cats generally prefer to be alone. I've owned cats for years and years and would advise you don't get two - unless of course you want to!
