I'm thinking of getting one but have read that you have to wipe them after they poo to keep the fur clean.

Does anyone know if that is true?
Anybody have any other pros and cons about them?

Thanks

who the hell wants a dog enough to wipe its arse!????

misdee · 03/04/2007 16:29

just shave their arses!

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2007 16:30

My friend always wipes her Scottish Terriers arse after a pooh because she's scared he'll drag it along the cream carpet, I'd rather have a Baby!

EasterChickenBunny · 05/04/2007 16:23

Their fur can get really messed up.

You might find that feeding a complete dry food (my Springer has Chappie complete) means that their poo is firmer and less likely to stick.

Sorry if TMI

Apparently they are the hardest type of dog to house train! And they also have to have a poncy name like Raymond (in a French accent)! Also it takes ages to get their hair all fluffed up with a hairdryer!
How about a lovely oblong head Lakeland Terrier instead?!

madoldcatlady · 05/04/2007 20:00

My dog is quite hairy. We've just given him a short back and sides, or a short backside . He's got quite a hairy arse so he gets cling ons without a trim.

I have 2 bichons,a male and a female,i love them to bits and can reccomend them in every way possible, they are the nicest dogs you could ever wish to meet.

they are not at all difficult to house train and the only time i've ever had to wipe they're bum is when they have had the runs after my sundays dinner-it has that effect on the whole family!!lol
it is no good getting a bichon if you aren't prepared to look after them properly-they need brushing every day and proffesionally groomed every 6 weeks.the groomer will keep the bum hair shaved so there shouldn't be any poo sticking if they are looked after properly.

ash- what are they called?!!

Chandra · 09/04/2007 13:33

Well, answering to the OP, if you wanted them to look showlike you can get into ANY sort of work, otherwise you can relax and cut their hair short.

I have two yorkies who have their hair cut as westies during winter and almost as Chinese Crested in summer. No problem whatsoever and they still look very cute. The very few times they have had long hair, I had to give them a brush everytima after I hold them!

ash6605 · 09/04/2007 19:33

MANUKA i know you are going to take the piss but they are called Oscar and Lily. very poncy i know!!

paros · 09/04/2007 19:38

Perfect names for Bichons!!
My friend found a place mat with a picture of the perfect Bichon in some crazy shop whilst on holiday and its since become a running joke - who can find an object with a Bichon on it! So far we have a fridge magnet, a mat, a mug and of course a calender entitled For The Love of Bichon!!! I also found a hilarious website which showed you how to cut the Bichon's hair for showing and it had the song My Girl playing along!! Wish I still had the url because it really is superb!!!
They are cute dogs though so I hope they give you many years of love!!! xxx

ash6605 · 09/04/2007 22:19

they are great dogs but i do draw the line at place mats and mugs!!
mind you thay do have swarovski collars.......

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 10/04/2007 13:39

My 2 long-haired yorkies always get 'clinkers' (little lumps of poo stuck to their furry bottoms) which I regularly trim. I couldn't wipe their bums though. If they do their business outside, I don't always notice!

oliveoil · 10/04/2007 13:40

OMG

Dog people are insane

barking (lol)

manuka · 10/04/2007 17:20

Swarovski collars eh?! Classic! Found the website but music seems to be missing! Its still amusing though- to me anyway!! BICHON
