[shock] is my kitten pregnant?

I noticed a few days ago that my very slim 6 month old kitten (due to be spayed next week)has quite a big tummy all of a sudden. This sounds auful but she hasn't really been wormed properly. The woman I got her from said she had been wormed then when I took her to the vets to check her over & have her injections I told him she had been wormed before I had her so he didn't give me any wormer for her. I have since found out that kittens need to be wormed every two weeks until they are 12 weeks old. I bought some worming tablets from the pet shop & gave her those about 6 weeks ago. It says on the box not to give to pregnant cats so don't want to give her any more just in case she is pregnant. Will have to get her to the vets I know but any hints on knowing whether or not she is pregnant in the meantime would be greatly appreciated, I'm just dying to know if there are any babies in there

Symptoms of a PG cat are:

Hooooge tummy when they have around 3 weeks to go.

Sleeping alot more than usual.

All lovey dovey with their owner.

Possibly more sicky than usual (morning sickness)

Eating a fair bit more than usual.

There are a few more but canny think off the top of my head.

Have had experience of two PG cats and this is how they were.

If you are off to the vets soon anyhow they should be able to palpate and see if there are any babies in there.

Could it be worms in her tummy? All growing madly like crazy spaghetti?! I'd call up a vet and ask if worming tablets could seriously affect kittens in the womb cos I bet its not that bad a thing to give. ??

alfielooloo · 01/04/2007 13:21

Ooooh! "Worms all growing madly like crazy spagetti" I feel auful now, am going to call the vets first thing tomorrow.
She does seem to be eating a lot, she eats the dogs dry food as well as her own, but she has always done that, maybe she is just a greedy fat cat! She is very lovey dovey but is always like that with me so no change there. will let you know what the vet says

I hope shes ok Alfie, am sure she is

raspberryberet · 01/04/2007 13:39

Has she been showing any signs of being in season? You wouldn't be able to miss it, the noise that they make when they call is awful! They also do a lot of crouching and rubbling their bottoms along the floor. They writhe around a lot as if they're in pain and may make shaking movements with their pelvis.

If she's been in season and has been allowed outside then the chances are high that she's pregnant.

megandsoph · 01/04/2007 13:41

RB I will never forget the first time one of my cats were like this, infact I had a thread about it a couple of years ago on here asking for advice. I thought she'd broken her back

raspberryberet · 01/04/2007 13:45

It's really frightening if you don't know what's happening, isn't it. You definitely couldn't miss it if it had happened!

alfielooloo · 01/04/2007 14:39

She hasn't been behaving like that at all, she has been quite vocal but more crying to go out really, she comes in for food then wants to go straight back outside, we don't have a cat flap so is in & out all day.
I think now that she can't be pregnant as she can't have had a season yet, am watching her all the time now, expecting a sighn that she is. We are all out in the garden today & she is making us all laugh climbing trees & sitting right at the top of the shed, & I'm thinking ooh you shouldn't be doing that in your condition pussycat!

hehe she sounds adorable!

alfielooloo · 01/04/2007 23:04

Yes she is, she is my baby. If DH gets his way & makes her stay downstairs overnight, as soon as that door is opened in the morning she shoots up the stairs 2 at a time & jumps on my bed & just gives me so much fuss, she sticks her nose in my ear like she just needs to smell me

My two were both teenage mums (before we got them I might add - they came from Cats Protection).

madoldcatlady · 02/04/2007 22:30

Cats love ear wax! Don't ask me how I konw, but they do!

KittyLetteMeEatAnEasterEgg · 02/04/2007 22:33

my sisters boyfriends cat was pregnant at 4 months

maybe you should take her to the vets

whether its worms or babies she needs treating

hester · 02/04/2007 22:44

My brother's cat was so young when she got pregnant she had to have a kitty abortion . I didn't know such things existed, but apparently they do...

RosaLuxembourg · 04/04/2007 16:09

My cat got preggers at 6 months too. Had no idea she was old enough to do the deed.

alfielooloo · 04/04/2007 16:20

Rosaluxemourg, how did you know she was preg? & how far gone was she?

OP posts:
RosaLuxembourg · 04/04/2007 16:24

It was a long time ago - she is 18 now. I only realised she was pg about a week before she gave birth when she suddenly started making little nests for herself. I went out one night and when I came in she had given birth all by herself. Was a very neglectful cat mummy in those days.

youngmum21 · 04/04/2007 19:29

hi rosa my cat has just had kittens look at her nipples they get more pink if they pregnant

alfielooloo · 04/04/2007 21:40

O flip, noticed her nipples last night, have never seen them before! Can't get to the vet's at the mo, DH car in the garage so he is using mine & vet is 10 miles away, too far to go on my bike with two DC! I have given her some worming tablets as it said on the box to give to pregnant queens 3 weeks before giving birth, so figured it wouldn't hurt either way if she is or isn't as she does need worming, need to do it again in two weeks time. Her tummy getting bigger by the day! We are going away on Tuesday to visit family & she always comes with us. Will hopefully have my car back by the time we come home then get her to the vets to be checked over

I would love another kitten. My cat would probably eat it though .

You'll end up keeping them you know.

alfielooloo · 05/04/2007 18:06

No where near Scotland I'm afraid. If she is pregnant we probably will keep one, hate the thought of giving kitties away, it would be nice if she just had one.
