Hi all

My husband and I have been on the look out for a cat for several months. We have a 21 month old also.

We have been offered a gorgeous 4year old and her daughter who is 1year old. We have decided it would be lovely to take both of them and they have currently been having difficulty selling them as most people have only wanted the younger one.

My problem is that we all go on holiday for a week in 2 weeks time. We are viewing the cats tomorrow and i'm worried we'll love them and want to take them there and then...which is what the owners are hoping. We have some amazing neighbours who could help us out but is this just wrong and should we give up the chance of having them because we won't be here for a week? They will definitely be gone by this coming Thursday as the current owners are moving into a flat and can't take them with them.

Any advice hugely appreciated!!

Thanks in advance

Kate

Can you take them and find a nice cattery to have them while you're on holiday? If they're family they can share the same run and it shouldn't be too disruptive for them as they're being rehomed anyway.

Could you get a cat sitter to deal with them while you are on holiday. A quiet house for them to settle into might be quite nice.

Thanks so much for your advice. Quick update, just been to see them, they are gorgeous but both seemed really shy/sad :-( The owners weren't fussed about us going away, said someone could pop in every couple of days!!! Feel like we'd give them a really good happy home but now my concern is neith cat has had any immunisations! They have no paperwork for them. They've both been spade which is something. Mum is 2 1/2 and daughter is 1 1/12. Younger than we thought. We have a 21 month old son. Would we be mad to take 2 unvaccinated cats into our home with a toddler??
Thank you

Book a vet appt for them for the day you pick them up. Vet will do everything that needs doing (get them chipped too in case they go walkabout). One of my dogs was neglected by her previous owner: had a terrible chronic ear infection when I adopted her. I had to clean her ears out with surgical spirit twice a day and she would cry with pain. After a couple of weeks of this plus ear powder she made a full recovery and has never had ear problems since. Sounds like you can offer the cats a healthier home than the one they currently have. You're doing them a favour x
