Kitten meeting older kit

Just been visiting a friend who has got a new little male kitten. I'm not a particular cat person but I have to admit he's rather cute. He's due to be neutered and hasn't had all his injections yet so is kept indoors.
Unfortunately their other cat, a female 10 years old, has taken against it and doesn't want it near. As soon as they are introduced ahe hissed and growls and then hides in a corner or runs outside. The owner loves them both and is upset that the cat is hurt.

I've told her that the older cat will eventually come round and be OK with it, but this is only a guess as I know little about these things.

Does anyone here have experience of something similar? How did it work out?

It'll take a while. Female cats can be particularly grumpy about stuff like that. They might never be the best of friends but there can be an amnesty at least.

I've taken in a little kitten recently on a temporary basis, my older cats where not impressed at first and where very hostile, I actually feared for the kittens life Shock.
But the adult female is now curled up next to the kitten and they appear to like each other its not just tolerance.
Introduce them slowly and have plenty of safe spaces for both. Good luck.
