i don't think it is broken as he can walk on it,but he is clearly in pain and the leg is puffy compared to his other leg.
was thinking about using arnica cream on a bandage (to reduce swelling)
or should i take him straight to the vet?

I'd take him straight to the vets.
He may have damaged the bone and need an x-ray.
I hope he's better soon.

I usually treat my cats with rescue remedy drops and arnica. He has either fallen and landed funny or been stung by a wasp! This has happened to mine.I only go to the vet after a day or two if they are very unwell

he can push and claw with it and there is no blood or puncture mark.he is alert but lying on my bed. dh thinks he has been kicked by a sheep- he has been in the sheep field next door. will see how he is by lunch and take him to the vet if no improvrmrnt

most likely is a bit abcess from another cat.
Have another good feel and see if you can fell a tiny scab somewhere.
Does it hurt alot of you touch it?
if he seems dull/not eating then I'd get your vet to check it out, it may need lancing and he may need some abs

if not it could be a sting or injury- how big is the swelling?

yes it was an abscess from a bite.Vet fixed him up and he is all better now.
thanks for all the advice.poor wee pussy.! he is back to terrorising the neighbourhood again
sigh!
