Advice on rehoming a rabbit

Sadly one of our two rabbits died last week. We have thought about getting a new companion for our remaining bunny, but for several reasons are not keen on this (short version: we don't know much about socialising adult rabbits, and there is also a fox that has been stalking our yard for about a year now so the free range roaming they enjoyed is rather compromised!)

I just don't know where to start. We ideally want to find someone in a similar situation who wants to take on a companion for their rabbit. DH keeps suggesting posting on local community Facebook pages, but I think that no matter how carefully worded we're just going to be inundated with people who want a free rabbit but aren't actually going to give him a better home than he currently has with us, or lambasted by hard-of-reading folk who think we're abandoning our pet. DH's other suggestion was trying to find someone through a rescue centre. But they're surely going to want to find homes for the abandoned animals in their care, not waste time helping us find a more ideal home for our cared-for bunny.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I just feel so terrible for the poor thing, mateless and now only able to get out of the hutch when I can sit out with him.

Have you a vets that you go to ? We got one of our rescue rabbits through an ad in the vet's. It would help if the vet staff knew the new owner. Where are you ? Is this rabbit a girl or boy ? You never know if a mumsnetter are looking for a rabbit.
