I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this type of dog. What are their temperaments like with kids etc??

Nope don't have but would love one.
When i was a toddler my parents friends had 2, they used to follow me everywhere.
If i went wandering up the track parents would say to the dogs where's wurzel? and they would come find me and bark to let them know i'd been found
They're not all bad. Depends on the owners imo.

dont have a doberman but my friend does. she got it as a puppy just before she had her first child. she now has two. the dog has a lovely temperment and the 2nd child is v energetic. the only change she has had to make is changing her sofa from fabric to leather for the cleaning. the children jump all over him and even though he has been jumped on a couple of times he has never even growled at them. Although I think there are certain breeds which i think are particularly recommended for children, there are things that you can do when picking a dog which will to give hints into their likely temperment, or so I have been told.

That's brilliant thankyou! I think they're such great looking animals and really want one. Think it's good to have a dog when you're a kid I loved mine when I was little.

I have a Dobie. She's nearly three and I can honestly say she is adorable and has a lovely personality.
We got her when she was a puppy and although we haven't got small children (our youngest is 14) she's fine with them...but my neighbours granddaughter who was about 4 at the time just walked into our house unexpectedly about 18 months or so back and I don't know who got more of a shock, my dobie or the girl!! Luckily, my mum and ds3 (15) was there and managed to defuse the situation! I keep my doors locked now and told the child's parents and family that under no circumstances must they allow their child to just wander into my house! At the end of the day, she's a guard dog ffs, that's what they were bred for!
I'm also of the mind that a dog is as vicious as the owner makes it and that I would not leave any dog no matter how big or small, alone with a small child. My friend next door has got Yorkies and I'll be honest, they absolutely terrify me!!
The trouble is that most people are under the impression that Dobies are vicious but the truth is that they are just VERY, VERY protective. We're not even allowed to have birds in the garden. If she spots them, she chases them out.... lol
