Cat having seizures

Hi, my 5 year old cat has had 2 seizures in the last three days. Just before the seizure he miaows very loudly then goes rigid and his legs start paddling, he lose control of his bladder and froths at the mouth. It lasts about 2/3 minutes although it feels much longer. When he comes round he is a little disoriented but after a while he's behaving like nothing has happened.

I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but i'm very worried about him. From what i've read its sounds like it could be epilepsy. Has anyone had any experience of this?

I just posted earlier about medication for my cats epilepsy!

My cat is about 11 now and started having seizures when he was two. They sound exactly the same as you describe. They were around once a month and always at the same time - 3am! We were initially given rectal diazepam (trying to get a tube of diazepam up a fitting cats bottom at 3am is quite a challenge!), but once his fits got more frequent (I think it had to be more than 3 fits a month to qualify for medication) he was put on phenobarbital which was great but the price more than doubled so we were put on epiphen which seemed to work much better at controlling his fits and was also half the cost but which my vets have now stopped selling!

I do really feel for you, it's so horrible watching them have a seizure. Any questions please feel free to ask, I'm no expert but happy to share the experiences I've had with my cat. Have you taken yours to the vet?

Sorry just reread and seen you're taking him to the vet tomorrow!

Thanks for the reply.

How did the vet diagnose your cat? Its awful seeing him like that although he's perfectly fine afterwards. How much did the medication cost for the epilepsy, i'm a bit worried about being able to pay for long term treatment.

I think they literally just had to take my word for it! I did take him in or call them after every seizure though. It took a while for them to put him on daily medication because he wasn't having frequent enough fits. Now he has less than half a tablet of epiphen a day and a bottle of 60 tablets can last me about 6 months and I think cost around £20. You can get them cheaper if you go online (I've found some for just under £6) but you will need a written prescription which costs about £15 I think. Then he has a meds review every 6 months which just cost me £33 so it's really not too bad - you're probably looking at about £100 a year
