why have you got an ice cream tub of frogspawn??
Do you want them to become frogs &in your house
Where were they before
They meed a pond really, they eat algae in a pnd really I thing

eviletc · 15/03/2007 14:01

they were in my dad's pond. currently they are in the garage. as soon as they have more than one leg they will be going straight back there as i do not wish for hoppy things doing hoppy things all round my house and garden

they were "for the kids"

am sure we used to keep tadpoles in a tank when i was little though....

am feeling really guilty now

they might eat breadcrumbs...when we were kids we used to be allowed to sprinkle breadcrumbs on the pond for the tadpoles but it may just hae been to let us think we were feeding them

look here

ludaloo · 15/03/2007 14:07

We have some too! Dd1 is currently feeding them fish food flakes Its not doing them any harm I might add...there are several with legs sprouting.

funnypeculiar · 15/03/2007 14:07

Um, think they need a much bigger container, and would probably prefer to be outside.
We kept them as kids, and I remember feeding them raw mince...

eviletc · 15/03/2007 14:07

oooh many thanks!

think they will be going pondward tout de suite though...

much appreciated girls

oh...wurly thanks for that! It seems we are doing the right thing! I wonder where Dd1 heard that then...hmmm

malaleche · 15/03/2007 14:09

I tried to 'rear' tadpoles once when i was about 12- they just sort of got stuck at the same stage for ages and then died. I felt quite bad about it. Think they really need all that pond water can provide not just food... couldn't you put them back?

eviletc · 15/03/2007 14:20

they're going back don't worry...

am a nice person really, not an ignorant tadpole murderer

Newly hatched need to eat microbes and algae that occur in the pond water. You can help get the right things in by adding lots of pond plants in, and using waterbutt water. GoldFish flakes will do for medium size ones, before legs appear.

When they sprout legs you switch overnight to feeding them raw meat.

WriggleJiggle · 16/03/2007 21:59

They love bacon!

suzycreamcheese · 16/03/2007 22:00

you breastfeed them, of course

SoupDragon · 16/03/2007 22:03

Don't leave them in the sun. They boil. I had to tell DS2 they'd turned into frogs and hopped away last year.

Blu · 19/03/2007 14:48

DS accidentally fed ours on a load of ground coffee. he was 'helping' make the coffee and tipped them into the tadpole bowl instead. I got most out, but not all - they are thriving atm. But will go back in pond v soon.

quanglewangle · 19/03/2007 15:05

Yeah, feed them to the fish

Here's a good link tadpoles
