Hi all

My dilema is I have just bought a jack russel puppy and have booked him in to have his jabs tomorrow, My mum has told me he's not to have them as the excretions come out in its saliva and fecies which is harmful to my dd's, she also said all our dogs were not immunised! On the other hand my sister says yes he sould have them!

What do I do?

We have not had any of our Imunisations - I mean nothing, I don't want to make my children at risk of anything excreating from the pup (remainder jab, like the polio vaccine IYKWIM)

yes your dog should be immunised, do your children normally play in the dogs poo?

well, polio for starters is a disease humans get, not dogs. If you have a look look here you will see a list of the things he'll be vaccinated against.
Apart from leptospirosis, all the diseases are dog-only ones so there's no chance of your children catching them.
Leptospirosis is not something humans get vaccinated against anyway, and it's not a live vaccine. If your dog does get leptospiroris though it can transmit it to the children easily and it is indeed a nasty disease...

I think your mum sounds a bit uninformed tbh

Well I have a crawler! Not that she's allowed to crawl anywhere near the pup but you know what its like! They get a spurt on when your not looking.

Just concerned, I think he sould have them but wanted to see if anyone had done otherwise.

Yes, get the dog vaccinated. And microchipped while you're about it in case he ever gets lost or stolen.
