I suppose you could try hair conditioner, providing you can rinse it off her somehow, rather than leaving it for her to lick at. NAF detangler (available from equestrian shops) works wonders when my horse gets dreadlocks in her tail! If you're worried about it, or something similar, not being suitable for dogs, have a quick word with your vet.

She should be brushed every day and shouldn't have dreadlocks tbh

I would take her to the vet as she may need to be fully clipped.

I agree with Orlando, how did your dog get into this state in the first place. Deerhounds should be brushed daily. If your dog lives outside it's coat should be in perfect condition as the coat gives it protection against the elements. The deerhound needs its wiry harsh coat to help regulate its body temperature so it must never be shaved off. The best course of action would be to buy a matt splitter and carefully cut the matts and brush out the remaining coat. Contact the Deerhound Breed Club to learn how to manage the coat properly. www.deerhound.co.uk/ . Deerhounds are a beautiful breed but they require a considerable amount of care.
