dp thinks allergy based - should go when fleas treated - ask vet when cat speyed
He says not to worry unless gets much worse

Biglips · 18/02/2007 22:33

OttergavebirthonValentines · 18/02/2007 22:36

Hey biglips which vet are you going to ??
dp used to practice in Liverpool!

Toady · 18/02/2007 23:21

My cat suffers from an allergic reaction to something? (vet says it could be a number of things) Her bottom lip swells and a "cold sore" appears, she has to have steroid injection every 2 months approx. She also bites and nibbles at her fur (especially on her feet) when the steroid injection starts to wear off.

Biglips · 19/02/2007 08:30

im going to the one on St johns Road in Waterloo/Crosby

I think you will find it is a condition called rodent ulcer (nothing to do with rodents)
Our cat had it, I think it is something to do with allergies. Our cat was prescribed antibiotics as a precaution and luckily it hasn't returned

Biglips · 20/02/2007 21:06

well my cat was spayed today and i did mention about the lip but the vet said it was nothing to worry about and she is on antibiotics atm as she had the op so hopefully that will clear the sore lip

thanks everyone xx

hmmm!....

ive looked at my cat since yesterday and now it had spreaded on the middle bottom outside lip...the bottom bit looks more of a coldsore than the top.

im going back to docs next monday (5th mar) to get her stitches out and will mention about the coldsore

If it doesnt go ask the vet to make impression smears on a microscope slide to check for a type of cell called eosinophils. If they are there it is probably an eosinophilic granuloma. She will need steroids +/- antibiotics to treat it. She may also be at higher risk of them recurring either on the lip or on other parts of her body. good luck

Biglips · 02/03/2007 19:43

hiya all

it wasnt an infection after all as the vets explained and showed it to me that the cats bottom tooth is rubbing onto her lip as her teeth is not fully grown yet and her lips is getting caught in between

i hope ive explained that ok??
