Anyone any idea what's wrong with my dog now? (WARNING - TMI!)

After a 2 year catalogue of disasters, I finally thought we were out of the water after getting him in for regular acupuncture to address his lumbar sacral disease.

Took him for his walk this morning and I noticed his poo looked pink so I had a really close look at it. It had a streak of bloody mucus around it and when I looked at it cross section (I DID say TMI!) the blood was also streaked through the outer layers.

I know this is not good. It means it is not a fissure.

Anyone have the foggiest?

Doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. Is he well in himself otherwise?
If it was dark blood, it could mean a gastric ulcer. If was lots of fresh blood, could mean a bleed in intestines (in which case i wouldn't wait till Monday). What u describe just sounds like minor bleeds in the gut lining, maybe from straining to poo, or he's eaten something sharpish which his stomach hasn't dissolved and is irritating gut lining as he passes it through.

HTH x

Thanks for that Caspercat

It was fresh blood, but not that much of it. Enough for me to notice it, obviously, but he had an inflamed prostrate a couple of years ago and the blood from that would be what I called a lot - he was at the emergency vets for that one for sure.

The one thing I have noticed about him is that he seems reluctant to get out of bed again (other than to go for walks) like when he first got hit with the lumbar sacral disease. He came of steroids for that a few months ago and these were replaced with NSAIDs - I wonder if they could do this?

He could have eaten something sharp too - he sees things that don't even look like food so I haven't steered him away, and whatever filth it is gets hoovered up in one foul swoop. Yeeech.

I feel a little better. Thanks both It just seems one thing after another for the pooor old dog.

NSAIDS could definitely do that. Make sure u give them with or after food. Otherwise he might need to try different ones x

I always put his tablets into pieces of steak, followed by munchy roll biscuit in the mornings so he doesn't get them on an empty stomach, but perhaps that isn't enough then?

I'll see what his vet says on Monday as to different ones.

Thanks for your input Casper - I really appreciate it
