Anyone house trained a dog?

I last did house training 8 years ago, and my older dog is 100% clean.

But we took in a 2 year old spaniel about 4 weeks ago. Her previous owners don't seem to have bothered to house train, but I took on the task, and seemed to be getting somewhere, until this Sunday.

Posy has suddenly decided that our hall carpet is the best place to poo. She goes out, and gets lots of opportunity to do what she needs to do, but since
onday I have now cleaned up 7 poos. As she was almost entirely clean last week I'm not amused. at least twice she has done them straight after coming in.

It's always the same patch. I'm cleaning it well to get rid of her scent on the carpet, but getting pissed off with it.

Any ideas anyone?

Clean the area with biological wash powder/liquid. It has to be biological. It is the only product that will remove the smell to the dog, and smelling her own poos/wees triggers her to do it again.

Poor you

Thanks both.

Justustwo, fortunately she is crate-trained, so overnight or when we are out isn't a problem at all, and if she feels like a nap in the day she happily settles in there. But as you will know it's hard to keep your eye on them while you're doing your housework or mumsnetting, let alone working (office at home). I don't want her to spend ordinary daytime in her crate, as her previous owner left her in the crate for about 20 hours a day (That's how we came by her in the first place, cos they finally realised that's no way to treat a dog).

I've just got to persevere I know. I have just been confused cos I thought she was getting the idea, and then having 3 bad days.

We'll just keep on keeping on. Wish me luck.
