Qute Eglu Hamster Cage and tips for Newbie Hamster Owner!

Anyone got one? Wondering what it's like compared to a traditional cage?

Thinking of a hamster, have a nearly 3 year old & 5 year old & having had hamsters as a kid it's for me, not them 😜 Any tips from other hamster owners? What do I need? What's the best cage to get if not the Qute one? They like tunnels don't they? How long will it need to be out of its cage playing? My childhood hamsters spent a lot of time in their zorbing ball thing!

Okay, quite honestly: I don't have hamsters (though I do have rats) but from first glance and knowing almost nothing about hamsters I'd say it's way too small. I'm almost certain that hamsters are like most other rodents in that they need big cages, so I'd say the biggest cage you can get. If you're willing to spend that much on a cage you can probably get a really good sized cage for a hamster.

They suggest that for a Syrian, the smallest cage size should be 80cm wide by 50cm deep and 35cm high. The bigger of the Qute units isn't even that big, let alone the interal dimensions of the cage itself.

Hamsters love tunnels, but do bear in mind that tunnels can be really hard to clean. Buy the biggest cage you can and give your hammy lots of toilet roll tubes and small boxes to play with.
