Does anybody know why you don't get miniature cats?

Not that I think it would be a good idea, but considering all the other variations on the basic domestic cat, I've always wondered why you don't get miniature ones. Is it impossible to breed for size in cats? I'm sure there would be plenty of people who'd want a cat that stayed kitten size, so I'm sure it would have been done if it was possible.
Does anyone know?

I don't know if the one by the mug (the MiniPer)is a full grown one - if so it looks like the kind of thing Paris Hilton would have in her handbag!

I saw one on television (could have been one of the planet earth progs) it was in the rainforests in South America or somewhere like that. It was tiny. Think it was chasing a moth?

So it looks like it's quite a new thing & once the breeders get a stock established we'll start seeing them in Hollywood!

Unfortunately that will probably be the case and the unscrupulous breeders, out for a quick buck, will have a field day. They will be the next fad accessory for stupid celebs who will dump them when the next designer pet fad comes along, and of course the rescue centres will be left to pick up the pieces.
