dog shampoo

was wondering if someone could recommend a dog shampoo which is extremely gentle. am going to get the dog washed again but last time her skin broke out in sores and we spent ridiculous amounts at the vets on various washes and creams to sort it out. so was wondering if there was a good shampoo i could get them to use instead so this doesn't happen again?

thanks

Dont use baby shampoo, it really isnt suitable for dogs at all. WHy the need to wash anyway?

A friend came to ours to groom our dog and she is qualified dog groomer. She always uses baby shampoo as says it is the mildest formula and as she does several dogs it is the best for all.

I think there is a mdicated shampoo but you would prob have to get it from vets as my parents had one for their old dog who had scabby skin! Sorry but can't remember name of it.

Baby shampoo has the opposite effect of what a dog shampoo does. It takes the grease away whilst dogs need that grease.

I really would not know only what groomer was using and told me why she used it as she had lo9ts of dogs to do and was best as nothing bad in it.
have used on my dog but then also used loreal (she is worth it!!)

My friend who's a dog groomer said diluted baby shampoo is fine.

I was told dogs only need the oil in their coats if they are expected to spend time outdoors in bad weather. Dogs kept in lovely warm houses who don't work, swim or sleep outside should be fine with up to weekly if necessary.

I admit I bath my dog about once a fortnight, but use deoderising doggy shampoo as our Ernie is a seriously stinky dog. He spends his days on the farm with me ( I keep my horses there and help out with the livestock)and rolls in horse/cow poo, eats chicken poo and generally has a whale of a time coating himself in other animals bodily excretions!

Up to weekly baths that is!

You can buy puppy shampoo in pet shops that might be gentler.
I use Johnston's 'velvet coat' shampoo on my springer, but I only use it well diluted and then only occasionally
I've seen a few grooming sites recommending dilute baby shampoo

That would probably be best, given what happened last time.

"why the need to wash?" LOL they do get stinky!!

I rarely wash my two dogs. Only if they get poo on them. It really isnt good for them unless poo on.
