spot on flea treatment for cats - how often?

Hi, I have given my cat - aged 1 an a bit, a dose of that spot on treatment that lasts 3 mths, about 3 months ago. she hasn't got any though. I've bought some more, but because i didn't record the date she had it before, is it safe to do it again, if it is possibly not quite 3 mths since? Also, the info leaflet says 'a second application can be made once, 3 months after the first one, to prolong efficiency a further 3 mths.If you consider your cat needs repeat treatment after this period, consult your vet'.
Am I being dim here, but I was under the impression that the treatment only lasted 3 mths, but now the label reads as though one treatment is it?

I use spot on for mine and tbh I probably only do it every 6 months and they have never had fleas. So unless you think your cat has them, I wouldnt bother at all.

Well obviously again in the future some time but I would save your cash for now .

thanks- (she hasn't got fleas) - I am new to this cat business , and thought, well I was under the impression, that I had to keep her 'topped up' just in case? because if I don't she will get them?

I treat her if I see a flea or someone gets bitten. Has always worked fine for us - but maybe I am playing flea roulette.

I do it this way because:

a) I am disorganised and never remember when it was
b) it is expensive
c) she hates it
d) it is all chemically and yuck - so I dont want her to have it if not necessary (she goes all stroppy and sleeps all day after a treatment.)

I thought that they were all for a month only? We had a very allergic cat, so I would do it whenever his skin felt scabby. Our current cat I do every now and then. Unless you have fleas in the house then they are much less likely to get fleas in the winter, so generally I would treat less often in the winter than the summer (when apparently they get brushed off one cat on the grass and then can survive until the next one walks by and they hop on!).

Spot on kills existing fleas and frontline makes them infertile (the fleas, not the cats). So if you have a flea problem, then you need to use spot on first to get rid of them and then frontline which will prevent future infestations.

I frontline my cats every 5-6 weeks or so. One of them has an allergy so goes a bit mental if she gets bitten at all.

You can buy frontline over the internet now - it's much cheaper than going to the vet.

Oh thanks for the internet hint - at least I will have it when I need it rather than making a special trip.
