Have seen the shampoo but not sure if/when I should. I mean you don't with cats do you?

Do guinea pigs need bathing? I once bathed my cat when he came in covered in dog poo. He clawed the bejaybus out of me.

Only when they need it.

Like if the fur gets matted, or they get ticks etc.

BH, best not to wash him/her in winter and when you do its imperative that they're thoroughly dried. They tend to get a bit stressed even when used to being handled, I believe yours is quite timid, be prepared for some Olympic style jumping, lol. We usually use an old baby bath to wash ours, have a bowl of WARM water on the side to rinse the shampoo out and be extra careful not to get any in their wee ears.

Hope this helps.x
