Is it too much to ask a dog owner...

not to let their dog yap for minutes on end everytime it goes into the garden (garden backs onto ours)

It yaps at everything - everytime it goes out. Including at 6.30am (grrrr) & no one seems to try & stop it.

If it were mine I would try & train it not to yap all the time - it that too much to ask do you reckon????

Rant over

Have you told the owners you can hear it?

hercules1 · 13/01/2007 14:16

Once they are aware then yes they should do something about it.

we have dogs and ours dont bark at anything. our neighbours across the back have a yappy dog. it goes outside then just stands there yapping!
they dont do anything about it either.

I've not told them as I don't really know them, the gardens all back onto each other - so everyone around can hear it.
I wouldn't mind the occasional bark but its the constant yapping. In the summer when people are in the gardens & it starts, they do seem to yell at it (!) & send it back inside but in winter I think they must just open the door & let it out to yap, yap, yap, yap.......

Yelling at it is probably what caused the problem in the first place. Difficult one. There are things they can do but they have to be bothered.

If it is that bad, keep a diary of 'yapping' and report to local authority. This would drive me barmy!

They could get one of those anti bark collars, but you'd have to approach them to suggest it....
