A lab/collie cross, hopefully will get it in the next month or so. The kids are absolutely thrilled and dh is in heaven - he has been wanting a dog for years and I have always resisted. But an opportunity came up and so we are having one!

hooray! dogs are awesome!

southeastastra · 28/12/2006 19:59

oh i am so i've wanted a dog since i was little and still can't persuade my dp to let us get one!

Miaou · 28/12/2006 20:01

It's a big thing for me, as I am a bit nervous of dogs, particularly big ones. But I'm hoping that as we are getting this one as a puppy and dh is very keen to train it well, I will be ok with it.

Tis coming from another mumsnetter too!!

Our dog was supposed to be Lab/collie cross, we got her at 8 weeks from rescue centre.
We saw the Mum and she was deffo a collie but the Dad was deffo NOT a lab!!
maybe a greyhound/lurcher/wippet but not a labrador
(actually you've probably seen her on my MSN thing and yes she is wearing socks)

She's as daft as a brush and can run like the wind.

yes it is a bind sometimes but she loves the kids and they love her.
She's the most obedient dog I have EVER known and was sooo easy to train. Actually we didn't real;ly even need to train her..she just learnt it all herself.

You DD's, DS,furture DC will love him/her.

Miaou · 28/12/2006 20:52

Aw thanks Em!!

( at you not saying "you mad woman, you!!")

I know the parents of this dog very well - it's coming from my good friend Bensmum3 and I used to live next door to the daddy dog - both lovely looking dogs! Not sure what this little pup looks like just yet.

The dds have decided to call it Sula

We are getting a rough collie (lassie dog) in the near future I am very excited but the kids are over the moon they cant wait untill we get him. You will be fine with the dog I am sure, I am terrified of rotties and my daughter got one as a puppy I dont see her as a rottie just as our adorable loopy puppy who loves everyone so I think you will find that as you have had it since a puppy you wont bother you

We got a puppy as a 'baby replacement' .. that was four dogs ago!!
Funnily enough, it is always in the Winter .. something to do with Xmas & kids do you think?!?!
They are just like kids & we can't imagine our life without them! We love them dearly (well, three of them - there's always one 'kid' in the family that's a handful eh?!)

ditzyangeluk · 05/01/2007 22:50

Miaou, any puppy news yet? Are you still getting it & if so when?

Miaou · 06/01/2007 21:46

ditzy - um, not a baby replacement, have three dc's and another due in July!! The timing is purely down to the fact that a) we have talked about getting a dog on and off for years and now seems a good time (if we don't get one now and get the training underway then I would insist on waiting another year until the new baby isn't taking up so much of our time and energy); and b) I found out that our ideal dog was available - it seemed like fate was taking a hand!

Funnily enough we were talking about the puppy earlier today (we are going to call it Sula ) - haven't heard from the people in question for a bit but it's only about a week since I spoke to them and they said 2-3 weeks before she would be ready to leave - so I guess that's 1-2 weeks now.

Maggymay that's good to hear about your reaction to your dog - it dawned on me that getting one as a pup and training it well would probably deal with all my fears. I got knocked to the ground by a large dog (not a rottweiler but about that size) when I was 9 months pg with dd2 (eight years ago) and that's when I started to get nervous around dogs - but really it relates to other people's dogs because you never know how well trained (or not ) they are.

I will keep you posted (and hopefully add a pic!)

How lovely Miaou

Miaou · 22/01/2007 20:08

Puppy is here

She is gorgeous, really soft, very waggy-tailed, the children adore her already!

Ahhhhh Miaou. I'm very jealous. You've got a little waggy tailed friend. Congratulations. We've been toaling about it for years too. Our last dog left us nearly five years ago and I'd love to have another.

Good luck with the training. It's well worth putting the work in.

I'm going to show this thread to dh to see if I can chivvy him along.

You'll never have to throw away any food now.

Spidermama · 22/01/2007 20:13

'talking' not 'toaling'.

Miaou · 22/01/2007 20:17

lol spidey!!

Whilst I think about it, I was looking for you earlier today re. another thread ... hold on I'll bump it into active convos...

Miaou · 22/01/2007 20:38

S'Ok, Spidey, hope you don't mind but you are so good with kind and calming thoughts, plus you have been in her shoes so recently
