Recommended food for my lurcher

Hi. One and half weeks ago I rehomed a rescue 1 year old lurcher cross. He seems to have horrid tummy problems, with a constantly runny rear. On advice from Pets at Home I started feeding him chappie dried and tinned mixed. It didn't clear so tried adding the old favourite of my mums, mixing with rice and chicken and in the last 3 days have changed to Burgess dried complete for greyhound and lurcher, introducing it slowly with chicken and rice. He's still runny. Am I expecting too much too soon etc blar blar. Thanks.

It can take a while to settle but could you try some hypoallergenic food? James wellbeloved/the pets at home version? Could just be that he's stressed and it will calm down when he does. Also assuming he's been wormed etc?

Thanks. An adviser from a different pets at home advised the James Wellbeloved grain free hypoallergenic too. I'll give that a try.

My lurchers are very sensitive of tum, and do best on Burns Pork and potato or Vitalin Sensitive. We've been through a lot of foods which result in runny poo - alas its a sighthound thing.

How about a bit of yogurt to help colonise the gut (supposed to be good for dog wind as well)

We had similar with our rescue collie. His nickname was "liquid len" for the first 6 months that we had him. It was really quite scary as we thought he was going to be like this forever and wondered what we had taken on. We tried all advice (vet, rescue centre, other dog owners) but we really did not know which way to turn to help him. Chappie was a popular suggestion, also chicken and rice. We tried them all.

Your lurcher has only been with you a short while so it may still be due to his recent rescue. He is still quite young and you may never know what he has been through. Chappie never worked on our collie as it was not a digestive problem but due to the trauma of coming into rescue and being rehomed with us.

Chicken and rice worked well for us but it was really not until he felt bonded to us that he settled down and became "solid". We worked on the bonding by taking him on several walks a day and training classes which he enjoyed. He is a thinking dog and I think he does over think things (he is a bit of a nutter).
