Help! MORE kittens?

My cat's kittens are due to go to their new homes soon (all six of them) and I was hoping for some peace-I'm 8 months pregnant and was finding them plus the dogs a trial. But I've just noticed that their mother seems suspiciously fat! Can she really have got pregnant again so soon?

Get her spayed before she takes over the world.

HOw old are the kittens? I think it is possible for cats to get pregnant straight away actually.. sorry..

Kittens are 8 weeks, and still feeding, but mainly just for comfort. Was going to book Reg (mother) in next week as soon as they'd all been re-homed. Do adore them-but so much work!

Take Reg to the vets and ask them to have a feel of her abdomen, they should be able to feel if she's pregnant again if she's that far on. I take it she's had access to the outside since kittens have been born i.e the local tom could have got her?!?

Will do. Seem to be living at vet/drs/hospital at mo! Yup, she's been happily leaving us in charge of the kittens whilst she's off (tart). Was hoping that there was some kind of delay before she could become fertile.

Yup, they're fast workers!!

itsazoohere · 13/12/2006 13:59

Thanks for advice, although it's not what I wanted to hear! Will hope and pray she's just eating alot.

Just another thought-does anyone know how far gone a cat must be to start showing? Sure it changes from cat to cat, just trying to work out how will cope if/when more arrive!

I want to get a female cat (I have a Tom) as I think it would be a lovely experience to have a litter of kittens. What's it really like?

itsazoohere · 13/12/2006 23:25

FAB. Played midwie for the birth-was nearly as emotional as seeing friends babies being born (but won't tell her that). Hard work in this house though-dogs that despite being incredibly friendly towards cats would kill kittens by accident if left unsupervised. Had to take one kitten, Magic (so called because one minute she's there, the next she's gone) on sch. run because she was determined to play with dogs and worked out escape routes to do so. Looked like madwoman with kitten in coat on bus!

sorry-midWIFE.

cats are usually quite far along when they're noticably pregnant. keep an eye out for her nesting and if her nipples start pinking up she's just a few days off.

pmsl at you on the bus with kittens in your coat!

itsazoohere · 13/12/2006 23:40

Thanks. Her nips are fairly pink now, but then she has got six fairly large overexcited kittens hanging off them. SOOO chuffed I stopped breastfeeding before my girls got teeth! Actually, the bus journey wasn't so bad, it was getting busted in Cafe Nero that was most embarassing.....

put your hand gently resting on her abdomen, if she's got a litter of more than one or two kittens in there you should be able to feel them move if she's far enough along.

can't believe you stopped for coffee with the kitten with you lol, what did they say? did you ask for a saucer of milk for him

dontgivethedogsprouts · 15/12/2006 10:03

It sounds like great fun, itsazoohere. How many dogs do you have? I have two, as well as our cat, so if I get another cat and we have kittens, it will be a zoo here too! The lady we got our cat off, has 7 cats and has lots of litters throughout the year. She loves it.

So funny you taking kitten on the school run! I love 'Magic' 'one minute she's here then she's gone' brill name.
