Anyone with a Shih Tzu - reverse sneezing???

Hi everyone

I have a 6 yr old Shih Tzu who has recently started to 'reverse sneeze' very often. Before this it was something he did probably once every six months if that, so we were never worried.
Took him to the vet last week who prescribed antibiotics which stopped the sneezing but basically knocked him out.(couldn't explain WHY he has started to do it so often) The next step is to have him x-rayed to see if there is a shortening in the trachea. Just wondered if any others had experience of this problem....

hi,i have pekingnese and cavaliers and they all get this occasionally usually when overexcited.i also work with dogs and it is quite common in flat faced breeds.although if its happening alot and your under the vet there could be an underlying problem, but i have a few clients who have trachea problems in fact one is a shihtzu and they are all perfectly happy dogs!i just have to be extra careful around the area.also dont use a collar get him a harness if he hasnt already got one.hope all goes well k9kuts

Hi K9
Many thanks for your reply. The vet has given us some new medication to try which is to be reviewed next week - so fingers crossed. Like you say the rest of the time he's perfectly fine and happy, it's just sounds so awful when he has an attack
