Oh, I had a chihuahua when I lived in Australia. We got her when she was tiny from a rescue centre. She was absolutely beautiful, tri-colour long haired.

What she lacked in size, she definitely made up for in personality! Our neighbours had 2 large rottweilers that were behind 20 foot fences and she regularly went up to challenge tham from the saftey of our back garden. She had this cute little "weef weef" bark. Very very intelligent and not at all yappy actually.

She had a slightly longer snout than most of the other chihuahuas I've seen so I'm not sure that she was 100%. She did look the part though.

I was hearbroken when I had to come back to the UK and leave her there, she was definitely part of the family.

I'd get another one in a shot...

Hope that helps, kx

are they good with kids?alot that ive seen on epupz for sale have said they are ,but my friends have said hey arent (even though none of them have ever had one!!)

i really really want one!!i think its more the cuddly part that i want!our akita is a bit too big to sit on your lap,and our cat is the most anti social moggy youve ever met!!she lets you stroke her when she wants, and wil let you know shes had enough by biting you!!

ive got dd telling dh she wants a "chi waa waa!" so hoepfully i'l get my own way soon!!

couldnt believe how much tehy cost though!!that was abit of a shock, but i suppose they are expensive because of them being so tiny and also if your going to ay around £1500 it shows your going to look after it!!

A chihuahau with an akita is asking for huge vet bills. The akita will end up hurting the chihuhua, based purely on size alone, no matter how gentle s/he tries to be. Common injuries include fractured skulls.

Kids + Chihuahuas often = Bad news again due to their small size and delicateness.

Epupz - please please please don't use them. The breeders on there are a high chance of being a puppymill. If you are still serious about a chihuahua, please use the kennel club website's puppy search, and bear in mind that just because a dog is KC registered, it doesn't mean the pup is healthy or reared in a good environment.

we got our akita from a breeder taht advertised on epupz.and wherever we get one from,we would be very careful to check the breeder out first.

our akita has mixed with other small dogs (one of our friends has two chinese crested dogs, and tehya re very dinky!!)and hes been ok with them.hes just not bothered by any other dogs or cats.

my kids are good with animals aswell.my youngest is 2,so she'd be the one we'd have to watch!!the others are all older and know that you have to treat animals respectfully and they arent toys.

so i dont have any worries about either!

Just be soooo careful where you buy it, they're in fashion and so are being very badly bred at the moment. I'm sure you could google and find the breed society, they will recommend a reputable breeder.

I've got a yorkie x chihuahua (as has my sis which used to be mine) & they are very much lap dogs! Good temperaments, playful - but not all the time & not at all snappy (that is more down to the owner than the dog!) And LOVES kids! No problems with them at all (although mne can be lazy when it comes to her walks!!)
I say go for it, they are lovely.
The size-thing with your other dog ... of course be careful, especially at the playful-puppy stage & getting used to each other (your Akita may not know its own strength or size - dogs are funny like that!!) but they will adapt.
(Just one thing, with kids ... yorkies can be quite delicate regarding their legs/hips so be careful of rough play)
Enjoy!

Ooops, "yorkies can be quite delicate ... " Meant to say Chihuahuas!
