Cat Dragging Bottom?

poinsettydog · 01/12/2006 21:13

The last couple of days my cat has dragged her bottom along the ground, just once or twice.

My book says this might just be an irritated bum if slightly loose etc. In your experience, is this usually a sign of worms? That's what I'm worried about.

(Sorry to have worms on the mind - I know this is a bit gross but cat is young and I am not very experienced)

when was your cat last wormed?

Can be itchy bum or could be worms.

Not sure if its the same with cats but when dogs do that then they have blocked anal glands which need a good squeeze from the vet.

snap pelvic iwas thinking anal glands as well, they stink when they go

WigWamBam · 01/12/2006 21:18

My first thought is the same as Aimsmum - they do this when they're in season. Is she neutered?

poinsettydog · 01/12/2006 21:27

Oh thanks all!

She is neutered and does not make any noises when she does it.

So the anal gland thing would need a vet? Won't go away itself?

And she was last wormed in August I think. Aug or Sep.

The vet needs to do it

Harkthefubsyangelssing · 01/12/2006 22:12

My cat did this and vet squeezed anal glands. Shes very old now and does it occasionally - think it may be irritation as she is also prone to cystitis.

christMissybaby · 01/12/2006 22:13

i thought they did it when they needed to wipe their bottoms... (i have 3 cats BTW). have you checked??? (euuuuuucchhh!)

poinsettydog · 01/12/2006 22:31

bleurgh christmissy. She cleaned her bottom very soon after and it looked clean but I didn't get too close.

This is why I never wanted a pet!

probably is worms TBH (but i have seen my cats drag their bums on grass trying to clean them )

Animals scooting thir bums on the floor is not a sign of worms, Its is 99% its anal glands a vet or vet nuse can do it, very simple will only cost a couple of quid.
