cat question

i have a male cat and am thinking of getting a kitten as a friend for him.would male or female be best?hes been done and he's 2.5 years

If he's been done, shouldn't make much difference whether it's male or female. The only thing I would say, is that I used to have two male cats, and although they were both done, they used to spray terribly. I found one would do it, and set the other off too. It was awful. Having said that, I used to also have two other males, both done, didn't spray, and they got on great.

cats are actually very territorial and not usually very keen on other cats, so don't do it for his benefit.

Having said that, if you want more than one, they will learn to live together
