Dh has been looking for a little dog for me as I'm rehoming my springer to the lovely countryside.
Received the e-mail after replying to an ad:

How are you,i am very very happy reading from you,i am sorry i have not been able to reply you early enough due to the plenty of work i have here in the laboratory.
i am actually giving sisi out because she belonged to my wife(jenner) but with a heavy heart i lost jenner and she was all i got ,i have no kids.i work with a global, broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health. Our products span the continuum of care, from nutritional products and laboratory diagnostics through medical devices and pharmaceutical therapies. Our comprehensive line of products encircles life itself ? addressing important health needs from infancy to the golden years.
Jenner died in an accident last 3 weeks on her way back from church and i have very bad memories when i see sisi around me,because they were always together since i am always busy in the laboratory.i really need to give her to someone who can really care and love sisi just the way jenner used to.sisi has been very lonely since jenner passed away so the best thing i decided on as my collegue advised me was to send her to a loving home .
i really count on you if you can be there for sisi and love her so that she feels wanted.sisi was born on the 04-11-2006 (14 weeks).Sisi is registered and has taken all current vaccins, Veterinarian examination, Health certificate is up to date ,a one year Health guarantee is available, excellent Pedigree and i also have her travel crate which jenner used to use whenever she was travelling with sisi.
i will be shipping sisi to any person i find competent enough with enough prove that you wil give her utmost love.I will take care of and pay her Change of Ownership certificate and her food on board the plane and you will take care of her shiping fees to you which is £182
please i will love that you send me a picture of you so that i really know the person i am giving sisi to.
Please get back to me asap if all is ok by you so that we can round up ,i get all arranged and i send her over to you.

what do you think???? very suspicious myself

Definitely sounds suspicious to me.

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 12:32

I know!!
why would you send a little dog from canada on a plane.
If he were genuine then I'm sure he could rehome him there???

OP posts:
kid · 23/11/2006 12:35

Very dodgy, I wouldn't even be tempted to accept.

WigWamBam · 23/11/2006 12:36

And why would he want you to send him a picture?

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, I have alarm bells ringing just reading that!

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 12:36

Oh don't worry I'm not going anywhere near this....but it's just so bizarre

I had a Nigerian colleague who used to speak like that, and I'm afraid "Nigerian" and emails together smack of scam. Why send a dog from Canada? Surely he could rehome it locally without spending a fortune. This is rather remeniscent of those emails offering to put millions into your bank account if you will only let them have your details. They usually mention the death of a loved one, to get your sympathetic juices flowing, as well.

Of course, he may just be a sad lonely person who needs to rehome a dog

cowmad · 23/11/2006 13:22

a lot of nigerian cons come via canada as they have university links(i got told once that canada offered lots of uni places to nigerians so they are pretty clued up)
junk it and block it IS a con

on a different note tho, if you are re-homing your springer why are you looking for another dog? even the little ones need walking admit only 20 mins or so less, but whats 20 mins?

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 13:25

Its the fact that I can't let my springer off the lead around here.
I do take him out every day but he's just not getting enough exercise on the lead and I'm only doing it because of the fantastic offer I had which you've read on my other thread.
tbh I'm not ready for another dog for a while but dh was trying to do something nice for me

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 13:28

You know, I thought it didn't read right and now see what you mean..
I've just been looking for his so called global healthcare company and can find no trace of it????????

I really can't believe some people

lemonaid · 23/11/2006 13:31

That is SO a con that it's hard to see how anyone can fall for it. (shakes head sadly)

I think my favourite bit is "i work with a global, broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health. Our products span the continuum of care, from nutritional products and laboratory diagnostics through medical devices and pharmaceutical therapies. Our comprehensive line of products encircles life itself ? addressing important health needs from infancy to the golden years.", but there are so many gems that it's hard to choose...

cowmad · 23/11/2006 13:32

aahhh you are doing the right thing then!!gundogs need to run off lead and sniff away...as you know
dont rush yerself tho for a new dog and tbh there really shouldnt be any litters about at this time of year from reputable breeders as its show season peak an then crufts in feb...i know you dont want a show dog but ALL the rep.kennels will be into this.
when your ready what about a KC cavalier spaniel?they are sooo soft and will do a lead well.

hes still there, the weimaraner, did your friend ask?

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 13:35

Speaking to him tomorrow when I take my springer up [sobs and sobs a bit more]

Have tried ringing him today but think he's left his phone at home while he's sitting in a hide in the middle of the forest!

OP posts:
cowmad · 23/11/2006 13:41

poor you..you know your doing the right thing,he will be so busy bless him, he will settle in well!!dont cry in front of him, just give him a kiss and wave him off...cry in the car!
(crickey im off to get a tissue..)

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 13:42

Well we're meeting in Manchester so I'll be off to trafford centre for some retail therapy.

I got loads of these a few months back when I placed an add looking for ducks, people offering me ducks from abroad for £300 each plus shipping.

JunkInMyTrunk · 23/11/2006 14:01

£300 for ducks.
My dad keeps ducks, geese, chickens etc and don't think he's paid £300 for the all of his put together and he's got a fair few.....

God, I hated that cockerel when I loved at home!

OP posts:
lemonaid · 23/11/2006 14:13

Amazing that there are no loving Christian homes in the whole of the US...

12yeargap · 23/11/2006 14:52

I was thinking of recommending a Cavalier King Charles to you myself when I read the other thread, but then I thought not as you say you live in a bit of a dodgy area, and all toy dogs are top of the list for dog theft, which would make me hesitate - especially as you've had kids hanging round your garden trying to let the springer out.

Perhaps think about an older dog, that would be happy with lead walks? Rescued greyhounds are supposed to need surprisingly little excercise, and it's not recommended to let them off the lead anyway as they often have a high chasing instinct.

parkj83 · 23/11/2006 19:45

Greyhounds are a good idea, you're right, they don't need masses of exercise. try this lot

bethoo · 07/01/2007 03:55

it is a con you send the cheque but will not get a dog. look at rescue or local breeders
