Does your vet charge for follow up appointment?

Took my cat to the vets earlier this morning, it was nothing major just losing some fur from her ear and raw skin underneath. Anyway the vet gave me some antibiotic and steroid cream and said it's nothing to worry about but use this for a week and she'll see us again in a weeks time. Cost £42 Envy but u suppose I expected it!

Anyway are they going to charge me again next week at the follow up? I wouldn't mind but it's very minor so I'm surprised she wants to see her again at all Hmm

will they sting me again or is that included in the initial price? I can't remember whether I payed for the follow up when she was speyed but I'm sure I didn't!

IME, yes they charge you again for a follow up. I learnt my lesson a few years back. I have 2 cats, and one has been bitten a few times by other cats and had a bad reaction to the bite. ABs sort him out. The first time, I went back for the check up after the course of ABs, when he was absolutely fine, and was charged again. Subsequently, I just took the ABs and canceled the follow up appt a few days later.

Thanks,

Would you suggest cancelling then if all appears well by then? I'm no vet but as a nurse myself I know if something is healing or not!

I got caught out like this. They wanted me to take the dog back for a check up so I did. He was absolutely fine. When I got home I had a phone call from the receptionist to say that I had forgotten to pay. When I apologised and explained that I had assumed a follow up would be included in the £95 bill she laughed and said that they couldn't possibly do that as they wouldn't know how long to charge me for. The words 'courtesy follow up' didn't seem to be in their vocabulary. So I paid her another £18 for the vet to look at my dog for thirty seconds and say yep, he's fine.

I have since changed vets. This lot are much cheaper and less swindling. And better vets too, it would seem.

Absolutely. As MsAdorabelle said, otherwise you end up being charged for a 2 minute appt in which virtually all that is said is 'yes, that's healing nicely'.

Usually my vet tells me if there will be an additional charge, all you can do is phone and check.
