I have 3 year old girl twins and they have asked for a pet for Christmas, I wanted to know what kind of pet would be suitable for them x

Stuffed toy?
A three year old is not able to care for a pet or handle most pets safely.
HTH.

Whatever you get, you are going to be the one who takes care of it so you should be the one to choose. Christmas isn't really a good time to get new pets, they usually need a lot of work to settle in and it's too busy/noisy for them at Christmas.

As above. In general your post makes me a bit uncomfortable - surely you get a pet because you, the animal's carer, feel an affinity to a certain animal and feel you would enjoy it's company, not because a 3 year old asks for "a pet."

Most rescue animals are brought in when children lose interest. Please wait until they are older. How about one of those stuffed animals with their own carry cases etc

I agree, you should wait until after Christmas before getting one. My babies wanted a pet last Christmas and we told them that if they still wanted it in April we'll go looking for one. And they did. We've had Chloe for 8 months now and we all love her to bits. but they're a little older than 3.
I think it's a good idea for children to grow up with pets, it teaches them a lot. :)

Well, they obviously can't care for them themselves, but great family pets are:
Cats, v. V. good we live on a ranch so we have lots and they are so easy, friendly but don't like to be toyed around with
Golden retrievers, they are very loyal, placid and live long
I WOULDN'T go for birds, rabbits or guinea pigs, because with 2 3 yr olds it will be a nightmare and you can't really cuddle them.
