vet needs urine sample off one of our cats.

cats haven't used litter trays since they were kittens many years ago and go to garden and are free to go in and out as they wish.

Have got litter tray from vet with special crystals to collect urine.

have had cat locked in conservatory for 2 hours with food and water and litter tray .

How long do I wait ???

Any tips pleeeeassse.... ?

mummydear to make you feel better imagine the scene at the vets where we get all the much loved pets that the owners cannot medicate themselves and then have to inject the darlings!if you can get near your cat massage his abdomen, not hard, but may make him feel more desperate.cd encourage him to drink more by making fishy water ie mush up tuna and make very watery?

Show your cat the 'Guess what I saw on the way to school this morning' thread. When it sees what Fiofio dresses her cats in, yours will conveniently piss itself laughing. Just be ready with a cup.

bottomburp - inject the darlings - do you mean the owners or pets ?

Seriuosly I really don't mind giving medication to the pets just never thought to be trying to do this.

I take it your are in this line of business.. many thanks for your tips...but seriously how long should I lock him up for. I feel extremely cruel, although I relaise it is in his best interest, the cats are very much free to roam into the garden aaaaaas they wish and haven't used a litter tray for years .

mummydear, so wish i cd inject some owners!esp the ones that say i guess getting bitten is part of your job!(dog owners!)

it depends how important the urine sample is, if we had an owner that couldnt collect one we would keep the cat in but i think that is much worse for the cat.we are doing the same as the owner but in a strange environment.

one thing i thought of when i woke up was that you have the litter tray in the conservatory - wd you go to the loo in there with all the neighbourhood cats looking?make sure tray is in a private place where cat cannot be seen from window, cats feel very vulnerable on litter trays as are there for a while if pooing.perhaps another room?

unless your cat is 'blocking' will be ok to leave 24hrs but cat will be very uncomfortable .if your cat is nice and sample important your vet can clip up cats side and get sample via a needle directly into bladder - depends how you feel about this? sorry there is no magic answer

I DID IT ! I DID IT !

I TOOK THE PISS OUT OF THE CAT ! But he was not amused

24 hrs went by , not a twinkle cat looked a bit uncomfortable. Had follwed Bottomburps earlier advice , left fishy water out , rubbed his tummy but nothing.

Phoned the vet for some advcie , 'see what you can do we would really like it , leave it until this afternoon'.

Cat really whining so I got small bowl , let cat out in garden , follwed him under a bush and held bowl underneath him. He was so desperate to go that He wasn't bothered what I did, mamged to get a very good sample.

Delivered to the Vet still warm .
