Pet Insurance

Hi, I am looking for a Pet Insurance Company... wondered if anybody could recommend one that is not too expensive but offers a good level of cover? have just bought a new puppy and am shocked by some of the monthly premiums!! I also have a 2 cats I should really insure.. plus maybe my 3 children :-) - ideally without taking out a second mortgage!! Any feedback welcome as i really don't want to input all my details to the comparison sites and get inundated with bloody messages from all the companies on there!! Thanks Lucy x

On recommendation, we joined Petplan last year and have had no problems, they offer really comprehensive cover and have a few different levels of cover depending on what you need. They also paid out when we needed them this year. Good luck!

Petplan - they have paid out thousands for my cat without quibbling.

I have been told by many that petplan is the best and are the only ones to do lifetime cover apparently, which is why i am switching from sainsburys.

Hi. After looking at numerous pet insurance websites for advice I'm still unsure about the best cover for my dog. I have a German Shepherd 10 months old and he is showing signs of hip dysplasia. I have 12 month cover with Petplan but not sure if it is worth changing to lifecover now or if I can still receive cover if I renew when the year is up. Haven't had him checked yet but need to asap.

I'm a vet nurse and have dealt extensively with insurance companies. Petplan aren't the cheapest, but their cover is more extensive. Trust me, when your animal needs it, you won't regret it. I wouldn't touch the other companies out there with a barge pole.

Many vets will also deal with Petplan directly because they are trustworthy - this means if a large bill crops up you might be able to get the vet to recoup the costs from the insurance themselves (minus your excess and any processing fee) so you aren't out of pocket waiting for a big cheque for a few weeks/months. Although I will say not every vet is happy to go down the direct route.
