what can i do? 16 mice brought in in the last 3 days by our cats

It has turned into a competition. Sometimes they are alive and i have had to get up in the night to chase them round the kitchen.How on earth can i stop them

another 2 mice tonight and a dead sparrow.I think im loosing my mind.will it end when all the animals start to hibernate?
