Very old cat, has some tumours, how long to live?

My cat is 25 and yesterday I took her to the vets with a snotty nose, the vet has felt some small lumps in her abdomen and said they are tumours and also one of her kidneys has shrivelled up, due to her age.
She is not off her food, she is drinking and weeing more but is pretty much doing what she always does, mainly sleeping!
However we love her to pieces and the thought of her suffering is more than I could bear, do we wait to see if she gets ill, but I know that cats hide their illness well and when you do notice it things are usually quite bad.
But she is my teenage sons shadow she is always in his room, or waiting outside his door for him to come in from school, he is so against putting her to sleep when she appears to be ok.
This is my first time on mumsnet, but I have seen many of your posts and you seem to be pretty wise and practical and I would love some advise that is not emotionally attached to our family. Thanks for reading

So sorry about your cat. 25 is a ripe old age! I lost one of my cats to stomach cancer earlier this year. He was only 9 but the cancer was very aggressive. He wasn't in any pain but because he wasn't eating or drinking we had to have him euthanised quite quickly to avoid him suddenly getting worse.

You know your cat better than anyone- does she seem in pain? How quickly will you be able to get her to a vet (or have the vet come to you) if she deteriorates?

I know your son (understandably) doesn't want to say goodbye but you have to try and be as practical as you can about it. No advice about teenagers and pet loss, sorry- mine are only 3 and 5.

Sorry if that's been no help at all it's the hardest decision and you are the one in the best position to make it. Has your vet made any estimate on life expectancy if you don't euthanise? My boy was only given 2 weeks so that made our decision for us, pretty much.
