We're adopting a cat! tips please

I haven't had a cat for 10 years and now we are about to take on a friend's cat as they're moving abroad. She is 3 and gorgeous! She is coming with everything she will practically need but wondered if anyone had any tips for us about helping her to settle in?

Anyone?

I think it depends on her personality. When we adopted our first cat we were told to just let her explore one room for the first couple of days, but after a few minutes she demanded the run of the whole place where as our second cat barely came out from under a chest of drawers for the first week!
I'd say follow her lead, give her somewhere safe to hide if she needs it and let her explore the environment at her own pace.
If you plan to let her outside, wait 2-3 weeks so she knows your place is home but make sure she has plenty to keep her entertained whilst indoors.
