a cat, a dog and a baby - how clean is your house?

doesn't matter how much I try (not a lot) there's always hair flying everywhere. I cannot stop the cat for going everywhere and cannot wash the dog all the time. dd crawls everywhere, plays with them and god knows what? I cannot wash her hands every minute. is it okay? should I?

normally I don't care about stuff like that but sometimes I wonder if I should.

My dd (now 7) spent until last year in a flat rather like that. She has no allergies and is very rarely ill. I asked our GP who said that exposure strengthens the immune system. Don't let her eat the poo etc but I'm sure you don't! Don't worry about it - she'll probably be the only kid in school without an inhaler.

I have 4 kids, 2 daogs, 2 cats and none of them (apart from the last one and its mild) have any allergies. They haven't had a bad cold ever, just mild ones. The twins have never had a day off school through illness and they are now 7

I clean all surfaces with antibacterial in the kitchen coz the cats jump on the sides but not excessively. The kitchen floor gets done once a day. I hoover every 2-3 days.

Basically I clean like anyone else and not really extra because of pets although in winter the kitchen floor might get extra cleans if its muddy and I don't let the dogs in the front room for about 2 hours after a walk

agree with cass. have 2 labs, notorious breed for moulting, all year round! ds is just fine. my doc said the same. it is goodfor the immune system. obviously keep them wormed up to date etc otherwise dont worry. ds cut his first two teeth using one of the obliging dog's heads!! she loved the attention!!

I have 3 children, a dog and 2 cats, my youngest child has allergies but not to animal fur. None of my children has asthma and they are very healthly children. I also think it builds their immunity

dd is 19 months and has NEVER been sick. we've had at least one, occasionally up to 3 cats since she was born, til she was 9 months we lived in a a tiny one bed flat so the cat was quite often lying right next to her. she's a devil for eating things she finds on the floor [gag emoticon] yet is NEVER sick.

[great relief emoticon]

thank you all! That's exactly what I thought but wondered at times if it was just a way to justify sitting here chatting to you all instead of mopping about.
My dd is 13mths and never been ill once either.
