Am wondering around in the dark a bit I think.

I want a plan that covers them for illness, accident (even kids treading on them), etc etc.

Not really sure where to go.

Marks and Spencer do a good policy. Make sure you get one that covers them for "life". A lot of the cheaper ones will not pay out on a chronic illness when you renew.(ie once they have paid out on an illness, they will not cover for that illness in subsequent years). The Marks policy is a "for life" one.

Our 2 are insured with tesco's - and we have the most accident prone retriever in the world.
She has broken her hip, collarbone and pulled a shoulder muscle badly all in separate incidents and they paid out without question and our dog got treated at the best pet orthopaedic hospital in the north west. Only downside was that we had to pay first (over £1000 for the broken hip and £800 for the collarbone) then submit receipts to reclaim the money - which took about 10 days from sending off my claim form.
Good tip - don't get a mad retriever that thinks it can fly off cliffs, fences, walls etc
